Mon, June 19, 2006 - 7:55 PMPerhaps your owner could be talked into getting you a kiddie pool to splash in! Then you can go in and shake water all over the place! LOL! -

Perhaps you could get your mom (-or dad-) to make you a frozen treat? If you have a bone that they could put some peanut butter in and put in the freezer, or they can make an ice treat for you by using a disposable dish and putting water and some crumbled treats or boullion (soup flavor) in and freeze it. I do that for Paladin. He loves crunching the ice to get to the 'cookie' parts. I sometimes even put a rawhide twist stick or two in, with them sticking part way out, so he can have something to hold onto. -

Re: Summer for Black Dogs
Tue, June 20, 2006 - 3:03 PMmy kids now get excited when I pull the citronella collars out.....
cause they know that means PUPSICKLES!! I take thier kongs, fill them with yougart and various nibbles then freeze them.... sometimes we do peanut butter also...
the kong website has a bunch of recipes.
now they're happy to see mom go to work!!! it also keeps them out of trouble for an hour or two...
and ofcourse they also have a puppy pool...
My big girl is now 14... its extra nice to know she has the means to cool down if she needs to... -

Re: Summer for Black Dogs
Mon, June 26, 2006 - 4:35 PMI have a double double whammie with black dogs and summer heat. Like today, it's hmmm, I have to look @ farinheight... k, it's 58. My 2 not so heat-smart pooches are black (zoos and lily), and border collie and collie/sheppherd. They run and run and run and run in the heat. I have to tell them to come and get a drink. Tried the pool thing. They don't want to go near it. I even tried to put in right in the path that they've made (a ditch, really, all along the horse fence, made from 8 years of Lily's running back and forth, keeping them thar horses in the coral) but they just run around it. When I run the hose they hide. They love being wet, just not GETTING wet. What to do?
